Rollie really was the "holler house on the Brazos" Northgate closed off in the fall for "street dance" Thursday nights meant the Lakeview Club with Dennis Ivy and the Waymen The Tree House Apartments? Tennis ball cannon wars in Utay Hall? Burning brooms during the flight of the Great Pumpkin and sweating the burning of the "Battalion" reporter who got a little too close. Hitching a ride home on spring weekends and trying to find a ride back. Cackle, bull-neck, scabs, baby, shovels, that word for mayonaise, and all the others that comprised "Corps Speak" The sound of chain saws whining, Merl Haggard and Bob Wills singing, and Red Pots bitching and boasting. Smoking cigars and sneaking a beer with your fish buds while waiting to go tote another log......and thinking how unusual it felt to not be worried about those two major exams tomorrow. Standing at attention at 6:30 a.m. while the bugle played and listening for those damned grackel birds to fly over....praying they didn't decorate your uniform. Bottle rocket fights. The Great Pumpkin. Strappin' on boots, Sam Brown and saber....in cutoffs and a t-shirt....and practicing eyes right on the quad. That shocking flash of gunfire and flurry of wings in the trees above at Silver Taps...and the lump in your throat that followed for some person you never met...and the realization you were bound to something greater than yourself. White belts - trying on your BOOTS for the first time - getting your RING. The South West Conference? When everyone kept their hats off at Kyle Field and if they didn't we would take them off for them? "Steak Night" at Duncan, standing in your chair and singing "DIXIE"? Marching to the Brazos? Friday afternoon around-the-campus runs--in fatigues and combat boots? Midnight Yell Practice? Rock the Good Ag! Lakeview thursday nights. (Joe Paul Nichols and his Five Pennies?) Playing 'mo's at the Dixie Chicken? Eating those "giant" hamburgers at Dead Solid Perfect? The "Rocky Horror Picture Show"? The Grove? Watching "We've Never Been Licked"! CT's and BQ's, quadding and whipping out? "What's it to you snake?", "Ord, Ord, Ord", "Crapper", "Shoot", "Non-regs" The March Ins? The road trips? The football games? Scoring!? TWU and the "pig push"? Bonfire? Beating the hell out of t.u.? Finding a parking place wasn't hard?
